Help accessing your HyperWallet funds via GiveDirectly

We have provided this information to help you access your funds from the One Fair Wage Emergency Fund — which have been disbursed to you by our fiscal agent, GiveDirectly, through HyperWallet, which should allow you to access your funds through multiple options.

What is this text message / email I received about a payment?

One Fair Wage has partnered with GiveDirectly to send payments to individuals who applied through our system and were selected to receive this emergency relief payment. GiveDirectly sent a text message to let you know that you will be receiving an email that will provide directions on how to claim your payment. When you get that email from “Hyperwallet,” please open it and follow the actions to claim your payment.


How do I know this is legitimate? Is this a scam? 

This program is legitimate and not a scam. Learn more about GiveDirectly at givedirectly.org, and learn more about their COVID-19 response at https://www.givedirectly.org/covid-19/us/. GiveDirectly is a nonprofit with 10 years of experience delivering over $150 million across eight countries. In 2017, their team ran two disaster relief pilot programs in response to Hurricanes Harvey and Maria. They have a 100% rating on Charity Navigator and are one of GiveWell’s top-rated charities. 


Do I have to pay the money back? Are there any strings attached? 

No, you do not have to pay the money back and there are no strings attached. This is an emergency cash payment and there are no restrictions or tracking on how the money is spent. 


I’ve received an email. How do I claim my payment? 

GiveDirectly lets you choose how you want to receive your payment via Hyperwallet (options include PayPal, Moneygram, Check, Direct to Bank transfer, Prepaid Card and more). In order to claim your payment, you will need to use the email you received from Hyperwallet to activate a payment portal. Please activate the payment portal using your phone number.

I deleted my email, I can’t find my email, I entered the wrong email address, or I’m having trouble with the payment process.

Can I sign up? / I haven’t been selected for a cash transfer yet, and I need money now. What can I do?

Unfortunately, individuals who have not been enrolled by OFW cannot apply to receive funds from GiveDirectly. To ensure fairness and equity in their targeting processes, GiveDirectly chooses recipients randomly using pre-set eligibility criteria, and does not allow recipients to apply for funds directly.
